Introduction Footprint Project
Description: This project is a great introduction project and it allows students to use their creativity and get to know their classmates. The project starts with students tracing either their footprint or shoe print on a piece of construction paper. Then, the students start by writing their name in the middle of the footprint and add different pictures and items around the footprint to represent things that they enjoy doing and different things about themselves. They do this by using at least three different mediums (markers, crayons, colored pencils, pom poms, construction paper). Each student's footprint will look different as they will use their creativity to express themselves but each element should relate to something about them. For example, I had an airplane because I love to travel and I also had the Target dog because I work at target.
Extension: I think that this activity could be extended into a writing assignment/project. After creating the footprint introduction, the students could write a paragraph or two explaining what each of their symbols represents. This would be a could way for the students to practice their writing skills. Additionally, they could take turns in class sharing their project and their paragraph with the rest of the class.
