Dot Day Activity

Description: For this activity, we started by watching a read aloud of The Dot book. Each student needs a coffee filter. This activity can be done with markers, watercolor paints, crayons, or oil pastels. Students start by drawing what they want to be shown in either crayon or oil pastel so that it will resist the water. Then, they can take markers and draw dots or different things that will bleed. Once happy with the design, students take their paintbrush and dip it into different watercolor paints that they then spread around the coffee filter. The marker will bleed but the crayon and oil pastel designs should stay. Extension:  Another project that I thought of that could be done for Dot Day is using small dots of construction paper and laying them out to spell the students' names. They would glue each dot down onto another bigger piece of construction paper. Once they have all the dots laid out, they would use different mediums to decorate each of the dots to be about them.
